Kelis & Crookers - No Security

We're not fans of Crookers whatsoever but this interesting collaboration is too hot to ignore. Their single "No Security" is a gritty Dubstep, Bashment, Electro mash that would absolutely kill any rowdy dancefloor in seconds. Kelis is nice and moody too. We're not gonna start pining for the old days when Kelis was kicking it with the Neptunes, creating the hottest fresh to death ish of the decade. She's got that whole underground/mainstream appeal and if her next album contains tracks like this then ya'll can forget about Beach House for 2010 #1. Hold up - I know I can't compare Beach House with Crookers but it's like how many amazing albums are we waiting for next year?? Off. vid. above.

Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster, MP3

After several listens, the 8 new tracks aren't far removed from her debut album and while still great party tracks, I was expecting something a little more interesting from one of both mainstream and underground's most innovative new artists. Love the artwork though...

What a lovely surprise! Ever since the sensational yet overrated Merriweather Post Pavillion album, I've been fascinated by the new, more coherent Animal Collective. To top off their year long reign at the top, AnCo are releasing a lovely little EP. Finally, an official version of "What Would I Want? Sky"! The opening track, Graze, is streamed below. Alongside rappers, Million $ Mano and Mic Terror, Rye Rye actually sings a sweet story bout her dealer - weed is so casual to you Americans. AT LAST! Kid Sister - Ultraviolet, MP3

Nearly three years ago Chi-town Hipster, Kid Sister, promised us an album. Ever since that day we've had reoccuring dreams, waiting for this very day and finally, after at least five(!) delayed release dates, I sit here with an estimated 45 seconds left, until the album official lands.

Before you ask if it was worth the wait, I'll cut the crap and just say it: no, not really. However, similar to Amanda Blank's debut LP, we've fallen in love with an album full of light hearted party grooves and couldn't really ask for anything more.

While it could be said that the album's best tracks were leaked months ago (Right Hand Hi, Control, Switchboard), we're still pretty impressed with the production range across the 12 short tracks, creating what is essentially a Dance-Rap album far from Hip Hop. XXXChange, A-Trak, Sinden, DJ Gant Man, all pitched in musically, and Estelle, Kanye and Cee-Lo added rather unexciting vocal support to Kid Sis' quicktime cheekiness.

What's most upsetting about the album is the disappointing track Step produced by British Dubstep God, Rusko. Also known as the protagonist in our Ultraviolet dreams, the squeaky pop track trips along as diluted dubstep/grime, but sounds more like a tacky Rihanna track than the hardcore Eve & Benga that we were hoping for.

Putting our disappointment a side and focussing on everything else, we pretty pleased to finally have some new Kid Sis tracks to get to down to. And while Ultraviolet isn't exactly a dream come true, we reccommend it for the fun loving dance fans out there.

New: Beach House - Norway, MP3

American dream pop duo, Beach House, will be kick starting 2010 with their third album, Teen Dream. The Baltimore natives have been hibernating in NYC for the past year, recording the ten track LP with producer Chris Coady of TVOR fame. Having only discovered Beach House a few months back, their 2008 single Gila quickly became one of our all-time favourite tracks and soundtracked an incredible summer holiday in New York.

Facing an European release on January 25th 2010, the CD will be accompanied by a DVD of music videos to each of the album's ten tracks - all featuring different directors; expect intense "art". Also, as we approach the end of 2009, the optical artwork for Teen Dream (above) is making a us somewhat nostalgic for the Animal Collective hysteria of late 2008. Hopefully the run up to Teen Dream will be equally ridiculous and just as rewarding. First single, Norway (below), suggests so.

Hipster Run Off dude made an interesting comment about the Atlas Sound LP, Logos. It follows a "model" of having "2.5 obviously good songs" and then falls into ambient space of "kewl sounding parts". I never really thought about it at the time, but Carles is kinda right. It doesn't mean Logos, wasn't good. For sure, the ambient shit he creates is top notch beauty but it's the kinda stuff that you need a lot of time for. It's hella rewarding but you really need patience to let it grow on you. Criminals is a perfect mix of ambience, beauty and catchy vocals.
